I went with two of my friends to Hunter's today and needless to say the experience was... interesting. We had a reservation for 1PM which is the beginning of peak, but we were seated immediately which was great! Our server (not sure if she ever told us her name) was sweet and very attentive. We tried the Big Jens Elixir, Blood Hound and The Floor is Guava and all drinks were great. We then ordered starters and thats where the real magic began. For starters, we got the Popcorn Chicken Mac and Cheese and the Honey Butter Cornbread. Popcorn Chicken: nicely battered and the taste was great! Nice chunk sizes and the honey mustard was a nice addition. Mac and Cheese: definitely a must have! Very cheesy, pasta cooked to perfection, good portion size. Honey Butter Cornbread: the BEST. I have tried it multiple times in the south as Cornbread Souffle and I was THRILLED to know it is prepared the same. The flavor, consistency, and portions are top tier. Our table ordered two for the cause, pleasantly surprised and should remain a staple on the menu. We were pretty stuffed with the starters, but got meals to see what more Hunters had to offer. We then ordered the Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Wings and the Award Winning Gumbo. Shrimp and Grits: really good flavor concept. Loved the gouda grits and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Chicken Wings: nothing to rave about. They are your typical bar wings with lackluster flavor. The dipping sauce was good. Gumbo: S A L T Y. The flavor and everything was there, but way too much salt. If they dialed back the salt im sure it'd be much more enjoyable. Food: 9:/10. Food alone would make me come back. Atmosphere: you can certainly see who this restaurant caters to... we got lots of weird stares. This is a SOUTHIE restaurant, the FOOD is just Southern. We also noticed the Chef/Owner went around to every table greeting the patrons and having small talk, but repeatedly skipped our table. Not a nod, "how was the food" nothing. We looked past the rather awkward environment and wanted to praise the Chef for the amazing food, but he never acknowledged us. It was enough for us to not want to return despite how good the food was.
My friend and I have been trying to get reservations here for months and finally was able to snag some last night. We had the wings and shrimp appetizer ( sooo good) the wings had so much flavor and cooked to perfection. Both had the gumbo which was absolute divineee. We met the chef and hes super friendly and approachable. Definitely would recommend come here for the food! It's top tier! 10/10
The meal I had was so delicious that I couldn't give this place anything less than five stars. The brisket and hash for brunch was a 10/10 packed with flavor and a generous size. The everything bagel biscuits were really good I loved the honey butter. The inside of this place is cozy and was perfect for the holiday spirit. The service wasn't bad but not the best didn't feel friendly but the food came out quick and there were no issues. Would definitely come back.
The food at Hunter's Kitchen & Bar is amazing!! Everything I ate was a 10/10. We found this place on a whim while in Boston for a weekend. The place itself is very popular so I highly recommend making a reservation. FYI there is a $40 hold placed on your credit card to book a reservation. If you no show or cancel within 24 hours they will charge you. We had a reservation but we ended up sitting at the bar so we wouldn't have to wait. We started off with the fried pickles and the everything bagel biscuit bites. The butter they put on these biscuits is out of this world! The shrimp and grits were also another highlight of the day! This was probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. Overall, I was not disappointed with the food. However I am deducting 1 star because the atmosphere is pretty loud and gives college bar vibes, which isn't a bad thing, but does make it hard to enjoy a meal.
We had family visiting 10/12-15/24( due to my first cousin (Coach Charles Smith) being induction into The NateSmith Class of 2024 Basketball Hall of Fame on 10/13) they//we are from Louisiana and one of them bet me 2/'s that I couldn't find Good Gumbo in Boston. Lol so on 10/14Thanks to Chef Lambo. I WON! This is a very Cozy Restaurant. We all shared some Apps Smoked Chicken Wings, Fried Pickles, both types of Cornbread and we All had the "Lambo Gumbo "...soooo delicious . This was my fourth visit and I'll be back for ( one night of ) my Birthday Week next month .
My friend and I decided to come check out brunch here on Saturday and we were so glad we did! We came in before the crowd and were able to sit inside by the window. Greeted instantly we were able to put some drinks in while we had some time to look over the menu. I went with a virgin mojito, and it was sweet and refreshing. For an appetizer we went with cornbread. OMG! This cornbread was everything and more. The cornbread was savory and sweet topped with a plentiful amount of butter! You must order this if you go here. For my meal I went with the smash burger. It had 2 patties with melty cheddar cheese, avocado, crispy onions and serrano aioli. The bun was perfect for this thick sandy. It exploded with flavor I savored every bite! The side it came with was potato salad and it was solid. Will definitely be back!
Didn't know what kind of food to really expect because "southern" and wasn't sure what they were really known for Ordered drinks which were very strong but good. For app, ordered a side of sweet potato wedges and they were just alright. I'm not sure what kind of sauce it was served with like a mix of mustard and mayo? Turns out to be bourbon infused. Definitely not worth $8 though. Ordered chicken & dumpling and the brisket plate for 2. For Boston.. BBQ was better than all that I've had tbh and it comes with 2 sides. The chicken & dumpling my bf said wasn't good. It was super hot from the cast iron pot and she said it was super thin like chicken noodle soup whereas more of a thicker consistency than she was expecting like potato soup Service was quick and good. Not much lighting and a small bar. Overall, not but super expensive!
Food: got the bacon dip and corn bread?. Both were quality. Full of flavor, as a matter of fact they need to bring the bacon jam back. Expeditiously. Service: service was great. But then again we sat at the bar on a weekday. So of course that impacted the experience. It was also before 5pm. Ambiance: Super warm feeling. Rustic interior, almost has a cabin feel to it. Location: there was a lack of parking which I'm not a fan of. I'd recommend public transit, Uber, or Lyft. There's other restaurants near by if you want to restaurant hop.
